A university professor and development expert, Prof. Cephas Tushima, has declared his intention to contest the Benue North-East Senatorial seat in 2027, calling for justice, equity, and effective representation for the district.

Tushima, who made the declaration in Makurdi, said his ambition was driven by a sense of responsibility rather than personal interest, as he pledged to prioritise service, accountability, and performance if elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing journalists in Makurdi, he stressed that leadership must be defined by measurable impact, not years spent in office, lamenting what he described as decades of underperformance in the district.

“As 2027 approaches, the question is not who has stayed longest in office, but who has delivered results. Longevity without impact is not leadership,” he said.

He decried the exclusion of Kwande Local Government Area from producing a senator in the district, describing it as a longstanding injustice that must be corrected.

“Every other local government in Zone A has produced a senator, some more than once, yet Kwande has been consistently left out. This is not just about Kwande, it is about fairness and inclusion,” he stated.

Tushima also referenced the relocation of a Federal Polytechnic earlier sited in Kwande, noting that the development highlighted the failure of past representation to defend the interests of the people.

The senatorial aspirant pledged to focus on security, infrastructure, education, and economic empowerment, while promising to provide strong legislative advocacy at the national level.

He aligned himself with the leadership style of Governor Hyacinth Alia, citing his support for initiatives targeting vulnerable groups, including the elderly.

Tushima further urged constituents to reject what he termed “cash-and-carry politics,” and instead support candidates with proven competence and integrity.

“I will be your voice where it matters, your advocate where it counts, and your servant at all times,” he assured.

He called on the media to promote accountability and informed political participation ahead of the 2027 elections.
