The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said all newly elected state executives and other party officers will officially assume office only after their formal inauguration scheduled for May 12, 2026, or any later date to be announced by the party.

In a statement issued by the party’s national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, it said the tenure of the newly elected officials does not begin immediately after their election.

“The tenure of all newly elected state executives and other party officers shall not commence until the expiration of the tenure of the current executives and their formal inauguration by the Party on May 12, 2026, or on any later date that may be officially communicated,” the statement said.

The party said until the completion of this process, all current officeholders remained the legitimate leaders within the party structure.

“For the avoidance of doubt, all existing executives remain the duly recognised officers of the Party until the completion of this constitutional transition process,” Abdullahi stated.

The ADC also issued a warning to newly elected officials, urging them to refrain from actions that could disrupt party order or create confusion.

“Accordingly, all newly elected executives, particularly at the state level, are advised to take note and desist from any action, representation, or conduct that may contravene this clear constitutional directive or create confusion within the party structure,” the statement added.

Reiterating its commitment to internal discipline, the party stated that the transition process would strictly follow its constitutional provisions.

“The ADC remains committed to orderliness, discipline, and strict adherence to its constitution and democratic processes,” Abdullahi said.
