The All Nations Evangelism Ministry has called on governments at all levels, traditional institutions, community and church leaders to intensify efforts to tackle the worsening insecurity across the country.
The call was contained in a communiqué issued at the third-quarter Synod of the ministry held on Saturday during its Ministerial Development Seminar at Faith Cathedral, Makurdi, Benue State.
The Synod expressed concern over the persistent attacks by terrorists, bandits and suspected herders, as well as cases of mass abductions affecting communities, schools and major transport routes.
In the communiqué signed by Archbishop Dr Yimam Orkwar, Chairman of the Synod and President, Christian Association of Clergies in Nigeria (CAC-Nig.), it specifically cited recent attacks in Ayilamo, Logo Local Government Area, and Ugboju, Otukpo LGA, where police officers and members of the communities were killed, while travellers were also abducted.
The Synod said the incidents were indications that the responsibility of protecting lives and property must be handled with “utmost diligence” by the relevant authorities.
It also expressed sadness over the reported deaths of 37 miners allegedly from suffocation while in the custody of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Niger State.
The church condoled with the families of the deceased and the Niger State Government, while calling for calm and urging that investigation into the incident should unravel the cause of the deaths.
It further called for improved custodial facilities by security agencies to prevent a recurrence.
In the 2027 elections, the Synod urged political actors and Nigerians to avoid actions capable of worsening insecurity as campaigns commence, stressing that dialogue and peaceful engagement should guide political activities.
It also cautioned church leaders against being carried away by sentiments and personal interests in making election-related prophecies.
According to the Synod, church leaders should seek the will of God and remain united in the pursuit of divine purpose.
The ministry further expressed concern over the frequent increase in petrol pump prices and its impact on the cost of living, urging President Bola Tinubu’s economic team to strengthen efforts to improve the situation and guarantee a better standard of living for Nigerians.
The Synod also called on Christians to remain steadfast in praying for Nigeria and its future, particularly ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing however, that beyond prayers, Christians should participate actively in the electoral process.
