The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Major General Moses Gara, has assured troops in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State of more logistical support to enhance their operational effectiveness in tackling insecurity.
Gara gave the assurance on Friday during an operational visit to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Obagaji, Agatu LGA where he commended the soldiers for their commitment, gallantry, and professionalism in confronting threats within the Joint Task Force’s area of responsibility.
“Soldiering has never been easy. That is the burden of service, and you are bearing it with honour,” he told the troops, stressing that discipline remains key to military success and continuous training a force multiplier in counter-insurgency and internal security operations.
The Force Commander said efforts would be made to provide additional motorcycles and tactical communication equipment to improve mobility, communication, and rapid response while he also condemned all forms of violence leading to the loss of innocent lives and reaffirmed the military’s commitment to upholding human rights and protecting civilians.
As part of the visit, Gara toured flashpoint communities of Olagba and Egba, recently embroiled in communal crises, while the Air Component of OPWS conducted sorties over Okwutanobe and Ukpelu following revenge attacks linked to cattle theft.
Chairman of Agatu LGA, Ambassador James Melvin Ejeh, who received the Force Commander, said the visit had restored hope and confidence among residents.
“It gives us hope that normalcy and peace will soon return to our communities,” Ejeh said.
