FCT High Court on Thursday adjourned till Monday the case filed by the Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule after he begged for time.
Prof. Gundu is standing trial in a matter of alleged defamation initiated by Gov Sule where the claimant seeks N100.5bn in damages and litigation costs.
Sule had jointly sued Prof. Gundu in a suit marked FCT/HC/CV/3554/2025 for Prof Gundu’s comments on the governor at a forum in Abuja on July 10, 2025.
Prof. Gundu implied that Fulani terrorists are provided sanctuary in the neighbouring Nasarawa State to go unleash mayhem in Benue State even as Tiv farmers in Nasarawa State are chased away for Fulani herdsmen to occupy their farmlands.
Neither the Claimants nor their legal representatives were in court when it was first mentioned on Wed., Nov. 26, 2025.
On Thurs., Governor Sule’s lawyers came to beg for an adjournment to enable them file the Counter-affidavit to the Defendant’s Preliminary Objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court.
Counsel to Prof. Gundu, Prof. S. T. Hon, SAN, who led T. J. Aondo SAN and 15 other lawyers vehemently opposed the application for adjournment.
The judge reluctantly adjourned the case till Monday, Jan. 19 for definite hearing of the Notice of Preliminary Objection.
Sule’s lawyers were given till 12 noon of Jan. 16 to file their Counter-affidavit.
The case attracted the interest of many Tiv people as they were in court to hear proceedings.
Member, House of Reps Gwer/Gwer East, Arc. Asema Achado; Acting National President, Tiv Youth Organization (TYO), Comr. Patrick Angbagh; and Prof. (Mrs) Magdalene Dura were amongst those who came in solidarity with the Defendant.
