Sustained military pressure has forced suspected kidnappers to abandon two victims in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) secured the release of the victims during an early morning raid on criminal hideouts in Kyado at about 3:50 a.m. on April 15, 2026.
The victims, Mr Sylvester Micheal Ebuka and Mrs Chidinma Chikwentu, were kidnapped in separate incidents earlier in April. Ebuka was abducted on April 2, while Chikwentu was taken on April 6.
Spokesperson for OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, said the rescue followed a coordinated intelligence-led offensive, with troops launching aggressive fighting patrols that disrupted the activities of bandits operating in the area.
He said that the he sustained onslaught reportedly forced the abductors to flee under pressure, leaving the victims behind, stressing that both victims were rescued unhurt.
Meanwhile, the Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, hailed the troops for their resilience and professionalism, noting that the operation underscores the effectiveness of ongoing offensives against criminal elements.
He assured residents that the military would sustain the tempo of operations until threats to peace and security are neutralised, and urged the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible information.
