The Chairman of the Benue State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Hembadoon Orsar has been sworn in as the Chairman of the SWAN Electoral Committee (SWANECO), to conduct the national SWAN elections scheduled to hold in July, 2026.

Performing the ceremony via a virtual meeting of the SWAN Full Council last Thursday night, the President of SWAN, Isaiah Benjamin said Orsar was the first woman in the history of SWAN in Nigeria, to hold such an exalted position in the electoral committee.

Benjamin stated that “your choice is based on merit and I urge you to be fair and transparent in discharging your duties and also carry every member along”. He congratulated the SWANECO members on their well deserved appointment.

Responding on behalf of the members, Hembadoon Orsar assured that not only would they carry everybody along, they would also work within the ambit of the SWAN constitution.

“We want to thank the National Executives of the SWAN for finding us worthy of this rare opportunity to serve in this committee and I am on behalf of the seven members of the committee, promising you that we will do our work without fear or favour by conducting credible, free, fair and transparent elections and not betray the confidence reposed in us”.

It would be recalled that Orsar was elected as Chairman of the Benue State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in 2024, being the first woman in North Central Nigeria, to hold that position in SWAN, since Benue State was created in 1976.
