Troops of the Nigerian Army under Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have destroyed Lakurawa terrorists’ camps in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, neutralised many terrorists, and recovered weapons and five motorcycles.
In a statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja on X on Thursday, said the operation, conducted on October 15, 2026, involved troops of Sector 2 advancing through identified terrorist enclaves around Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest, where they made contact with the terrorists.
“During the ensuing firefight, the troops overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.
“The troops subsequently pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralising some of them, while further exploitation of the area led to the destruction of the camps and associated support structures,” the statement added.
The military also recovered weapons and five motorcycles during the clearance operation.
According to the Theatre Command, troops have maintained a solid operational presence in the area and continued clearance operations to deny the terrorists easy movement and improve security in surrounding communities.
The command stated that the operation underscored Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s commitment to dismantling terrorist enclaves, denying armed groups safe havens and restoring peace and security across its joint operations area.
It commended the troops for their courage, resilience and sustained operational efforts, while urging members of the public to support ongoing operations by providing timely and reliable information about suspicious movements and activities of the criminal elements in their communities.
