Former Governor of Kano State and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed confidence that Peter Obi will emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election.

The running mate to the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), made the declaration on Friday during the affirmation of consensus aspirants of the party in Kano State, describing the process as a demonstration of unity and internal democracy within the party structure.

He said the emergence of consensus candidates across constituencies reflected strong cohesion among party members, noting that the exercise was conducted peacefully despite the large number of aspirants in several areas.

According to him, some constituencies had more than 10 aspirants, but stakeholders were able to reach agreement through consensus building.

“I’m talking about Peter Obi. He will be flying our flag, and by the grace of God, on May 29, exactly one year from now, he will have been sworn in as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Kwankwaso said.

He commended party leaders, elders and supporters in Kano State for ensuring a smooth selection process across all constituencies, describing the outcome as a product of cooperation and political maturity.

At the event, former Kano State deputy governor, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, was affirmed as the party’s governorship candidate, while Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna emerged as the senatorial candidate for Kano Central.

Other candidates were also affirmed for the House of Representatives, State House of Assembly and various senatorial districts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso appreciated members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, the CRC, Lafiya Jari groups and the New Nigeria Peoples Party for their support and commitment throughout the exercise.

Earlier, the chairman of the party’s primaries committee, Mainasara Abubakar Sani, applauded the conduct of the exercise, describing it as peaceful and well-organised.

Speaking after his affirmation, Gwarzo pledged to run an inclusive and open-door administration if elected governor in 2027, while urging youths to remain committed to the party’s objectives ahead of the elections.
