5 Killed, 7 Injured In Kogi Motor Accident

A vehicular accident at Gidan Bassa settlement along Ajaokuta-Lokoja highway in Kogi state  has killed five persons ,leaving seven  others with  varying  degrees of injuries .

The incident happened on Tuesday around 11.35an  when an over speeding Toyota avensis  lost control and rammed into a trailer in motion while attempting  to overtake  another vehicle on the said road.

According to Eyewitnesses, the accident involved a Toyota avensis with registered plate number, Kogi:BJK172LG and a  trailer  with registered plate number, Jigawa: BBR719SA

The Toyota avensis was said to be on its way from Abejukolo, the headquarters of Omala local government to Abuja when it rammed into  a trailer in failed overtaken.

The Kogi state Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander,  Tenimu Yusuf Etuku confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stressing that the accident was caused by over speeding on the part of the driver of the Toyota avensis.

FRSC Boss stated that  the Toyota avensis was carrying twelve  persons , including the driver when the incident happened, which led to the death of the passengers, and injuring several others .

“Five persons were confirmed dead at the scene of the incident, while seven others sustained life threatening injuries . Two children were among the dead.

“Both the dead and injured were carried to  Ekpe hospital Ganaja -Lokoja, Asco hospital, Ajaokuta and Specialist hospital,  Lokoja for medical treatment”, he said .

He added that some of the items recovered at the scene of the incident, luggage ,  4phones and  2vehicles  have been handed over to the police authorities for further action.

Meanwhile, the state FRSC commander has advised drivers to avoid wrongful overtaken and excessive speeding  to reduce incident of avoidable death on the nation’s roads.
