A Non-Governmental Organization, NGO, Citizens for Equality and Good Governance Nigeria, CEGGN, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to end the incessant attacks on the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, Engr. Bayo Ojulari, by those it described as unpatriotic individuals.
The group said those behind the plot to remove Ojulari are bend on truncating the positive reforms being implemented by the current NNPCL leadership.
Leader/Convener of CEGGN, Comrade, Robert Terfa Swem, said the renewed agitation demanding the removal of the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL is targeted at sabotaging the nation’s economy, thereby derailing the steady recovery of Nigeria’s economy under President Tinubu’s administration.
Swem, who spoke to Newsmen, Friday in Abuja, accused some notable political elite of being behind the ill-conceived plot to remove Ojulari and pave way for the full return of oil theft in the Niger Delta area.
He said the new NNPCL leadership has successfully blocked linkages in the oil sector, increasing production capacity of Nigeria, making the country to meet its OPEC quota for the first time in history.
He described as baseless and unfounded, allegations leveled against the NNPCL boss, whom he said has performed excellently.
He attributed the meeting of Nigeria’s 2025 revenue target to the relentless war waged by the federal government through the company’s support to end illegal oil activities.
According to him, the success of the transformational reforms ongoing in the NNPCL under Ojulari is what has caused the mounting campaign of hate and blackmail against him.
While appealing to the youth of the Niger Delta to refrain from being used by those who do not wish the country well, Swem explained that the performance of the new team at the helm of affairs at the corporation will enhance the reelection bid of President Tinubu come 2027.
He observed that those behind the plot to remove Ojulari are planning to frustrate the transformation that is being witnessed in the organization in a short time.
He explained that those bent on blackmailing Ojulari to pave the way for his sack, are working against the progress of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the president.
The youth mobiliser said those behind the plot have resorted to championing ethnic chauvinism.
‘Let me appeal to President Tinubu, GCFR, to disregard such persons. Ojulari, leadership has increased revenue to the government, and subregional entities are now happy with Mr. President,” he stated.
