The Paramount Ruler of Idoma land, His Royal Majesty, Agaba-Idu Dr. Elaigwu Odogbo John, has suspended the conferment of all chieftaincy titles across the Idoma Area Traditional Council in bid to preserve the sanctity of Idoma heritage,

The directive, issued in a statement signed by the Council’s Secretary, Adegbe Uloko, on Wednesday affects all Intermediate Area Councils, including Apa/Agatu, Otukpo/Ohimini, Ado/Okpokwu, Ogbadibo, Oju, and Obi.

The Council warned that no community, group, or individual is permitted to confer, approve, or announce any traditional title until further notice.

It added that any conferment carried out in violation of the suspension would be considered null and void, with no recognition from the Paramount Ruler, the Idoma Area Traditional Council, or the Benue State Council of Traditional Rulers.

According to the statement, defaulters may also face additional traditional and legal sanctions.

Reaffirming its commitment to protecting the integrity of traditional institutions, the Council stressed that chieftaincy titles in Idoma land must reflect honour, service, and cultural value, and will only be conferred under lawful authority and due process.
