The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of Mkor Aondona, his Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning, following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Aondona was reportedly picked up by EFCC operatives over allegations bordering on sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, the Governor said the suspension reflects his administration’s zero tolerance for criminality and ethical misconduct.
“This government is built on integrity, discipline, and accountability. Any official found wanting will face the full weight of the law,” the statement reads.
Governor Alia assured the public that there would be no interference in the legal process, adding that anyone whose actions bring the government into disrepute or erode public trust will not be shielded.
“Public office is a call to serve with honour, transparency, and responsibility. Anyone who deviates from this path has no place in my administration,” he said.
The Governor further emphasised his commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of all citizens, especially women and vulnerable groups, and pledged continued cooperation with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served.
The suspended aide is expected to fully cooperate with investigators and answer to the allegations leveled against him.
