Vice President (Oil and Gas) of Dangote Industries Limited, Devakumar Edwin, has been named Person of the Year by Daily Asset Newspapers in recognition of his contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and his role in advancing the operations of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals (DPRP).
The award was presented to him in Abuja at the 9th Annual Daily Asset Award and Lecture, attended by government officials, industry leaders, media executives and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the ceremony, Publisher of Daily Asset Newspapers, Dr. Cletus Akwaya, described Edwin as central to the successful establishment and operations of the Dangote Refinery, which he said has continued to boost Nigeria’s domestic refining capacity and support economic diversification.
Akwaya said Edwin’s leadership and commitment to transparent stakeholder engagement and effective corporate communication have helped shape public understanding of the refinery’s strategic importance to Nigeria and Africa’s energy landscape.
According to him, the recognition reflects the growing impact of the Dangote Refinery as a catalyst for industrial growth, job creation and sustainable national development.
Reading the citation, Akwaya said the Person of the Year/Corporate Achiever of the Year award was conferred on Edwin for serving as a backbone in the establishment of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, described as the world’s largest single-train refinery.
He noted that the refinery has helped Nigeria move towards self-sufficiency in petroleum products, reduced import dependence and stimulated economic growth, adding that Edwin deserved continental recognition for helping to change the narrative in Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
Edwin was represented at the event by the Dangote Group’s Senior General Manager, External Relations and Stakeholder Management, Alhaji Abatcha Bishara.
In a statement, the Dangote Group said the recognition reinforces its commitment to Nigeria’s energy security, domestic refining capacity and national economic growth, while appreciating the media for promoting responsible journalism and credible communication.
Edwin joins other award recipients, including the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Dr. Zacch Adedeji; National Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Chief Mamman Mike Osuman; Governors Peter Mbah (Enugu), Monday Okpebholo (Edo) and Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa); Senator Kawu Sumaila; and the Minister of Livestock Development, Hon. Idi Mukhtar Maiha.
The Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas emerged as Best Government Agency of the Year.
Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu earlier this week said the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has significantly enhanced the supply of petroleum products in the country.
