The Vice Chancellor of federal university Lokoja(FUL),Professor Olayemi Akinwumi has admonished students of the institution to comply with 75 percent class attendance to eligible them qualify to sit for examinations at the end of each semester.
The institution’s Vice Chancellor disclosed this at the Felele-lokoja Campus on Friday while addressing the new students at 2025/2026 14th Matriculation ceremony.
He urged the matriculating students of the institution to strictly comply with the set standard on their own interest , stressing that class attendance is mandatory, not optional.
The Vice Chancellor told the new intakes to stay clear of every form of examination misconduct and malpractice, noting that the institution has zero tolerance for such acts, and the penalties are severe to any erring student .
He enjoined the new students to embrace dialogue and shun violence act as means of engagement in the citadel of learning
Also, the vice Chancellor implored them to be security conscious at all times, and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities promptly for action .
“For the 2025/2026 Academic Session, a total of 9,097 students are matriculating into the Federal University Lokoja, having successfully met the requirements of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations and the University’s screening exercise.
“This figure reflects not only the competitive nature of our admission process but also our steadfast commitment to merit, quality, and excellence.
“This matriculation ceremony is particularly significant to me because it is the last set of students I am admitting under my administration as the 3rd Vice-Chancellor of this University”, he said .
He therefore advised to avoid drug abuse and substance use, describing the act as corrosive habits that destroy lives and futures.
He added :”The University equally maintains strict standards on decency in appearance. You are therefore required to comply fully with the approved dress code at all times. Decency reflects discipline, and discipline is the pathway to success.
“You are also strongly advised to stay away from all forms of violent protest throughout your stay in the University.
“Please note that any student with less than 75% class attendance shall not be eligible to sit for examinations at the end of each semester. Attendance is not optional; it is mandatory”.
The Vice Chancellor charged the matriculating students to respect their colleagues and all members of staff of the University, stressing that such mutual respect will make their stay in the institution peaceful, productive, and fulfilling.
However, he implored the matriculating students to make use of the opportunity afforded them by their parents and guardians, stressing that they have made great sacrifices to see them through to the institution.
