The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Zonal Secretary, North Central, Hon. Adamu Mohammed Yakubu, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bar. Nyesom Wike to formally join the APC to continue the good work he is doing across the FCT.
Hon. Yakubu who made the call during an interview on Wednesday in Abuja, described Wike as a highly experienced politician whose political influence will add more value to the APC.
While urging the FCT Minister to defect to the party to take over as leader in FCT, he stated that the ruling APC is very receptive and open to welcoming Wike into its fold.
“There is no doubt that the FCT Minister, Bar. Nyesom Wike, is doing a good job. Most of us have seen the infrastructure development and the new reforms he is bringing here. But he is a member of the PDP and working for the APC. The truth is that when he was appointed, we were very happy knowing what he has done in his state – Rivers, and how he is handling the issue of projects. We know that things will get better in the FCT. But when he now said he still remains in PDP, we were shocked.
“But you see, he has performed creditably well in the FCT. He is doing a great job. He is working. And in terms of politics, he is an experienced politician. He has been a local government chairman, he has been a governor, he has been a minister, and he is still a minister now. And he has even contested in his party to be a presidential flag bearer. Even though he couldn’t make it, but you know he has made an impact.
“As an experienced politician, the major reason we are calling on him is that any person who is the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, under an administration of a party, he is the leader of that party. That is where we are getting an issue. But we are appealing to him to look at us as his field workers.
“We are appealing to him because PDP now is on life support. Very soon they will announce its death. But the truth is that he has done a great job and we are appealing to him to even look at the possibility of coming back to us as a party. He should come. He has made this administration proud. He has worked hard. And we are in love with what he is doing and we are ready to give him 100% loyalty if he decides to join us.
“And if eventually he still remains there, he should give us recognition, he should carry us along like the president carried him. Even while he is in the PDP, he brought him to serve under him; and let him see the possibility of bringing us close. The party in FCT is a very little distanced from him.
“And we want to encourage him by a way of coming close to him. He is our boss because the President deemed it necessary whether we like it or not and gave him the position. And we now discovered that he is a great man and he is working hard to make the entire nation proud.
“So in a clear terms, as the APC National Zonal Secretary, North Central, I’m inviting the minister to come and join the APC, because I believe that when he joins the APC, he will do more than what he is doing currently. If eventually this appeal and call for him to join the APC is accepted, we are going to celebrate. We are going to do it because he is a great person. And his experience in politics will add more value to APC. And we are appealing because his party is on life support now. Wike is the only life-support PDP is having. Immediately he leaves they will die off”.
Hon. Yakubu lauded the FCT accelerated infrastructure development drive under Wike, and commended his hard work and commitment in delivering critical road projects across the FCT.
While also commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment, focused and transformational leadership, Hon. Yakubu assured that the APC would deliver the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the president in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
Speaking further, the political master strategist said that the APC in the North Central zone has been through rigorous engagements to seek a way on how to move the party forward and reposition it for victory ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Generally, in the North Central zone, we have issues. The governors are on top of the issues. APC is one big family. You cannot say in politics, there is no one or two persons or people who are feeling they are not being carried along. And we are working towards resolving that. We are forming committees to look into that and harmonize the stance of the entire people. We held a series of stakeholders meetings. And we are going to make sure we put the house together to win the 2027 elections.
“And you know what the APC in the North Central is giving to the Federal? We are giving the President the maximum vote. This time around, we are promising him a total vote of the North Central by the special grace of God. I foresee a landslide victory for APC in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
“All these reforms. You know, let me be sincere to you. A lot of issues on the cry about either hunger in the land, or insecurity. It is the result of the accumulation of things that cannot be resolved in one day. And to be sincere to you, if you have a dislocation, and the person fixing the dislocation is working on you, you’ll feel the pains. These are the pains we are feeling now as Nigerians.
“But I am telling you, with the reforms that are going on, President Tinubu will get more than the votes he got in the last general elections from the North Central. The president is doing his best, giving the governors the money to work for the people. And some of the governors are doing their best to make sure they work hard and support the party. I’m calling on other state governors to replicate what the governor of Niger State, His Excellency, Mohammed Umar Bago is doing in supporting the party and stakeholders in the North Central. He is doing a good job and need to be commended”.
On the issue of insecurity in Nigeria, especially in the North Central region, Hon. Yakubu described the situation as complicated and called for the convocation of a North-Central Security Summit.
“The issue is that it is a very complicated situation. The North Central has been witnessing security challenges. The only thing is, I would call on the governors of the North Central to come on a platform and hold a security summit in order to get all the critical stakeholders in the security architecture of Nigeria; and the retired generals who will sit down and bring out a communique on how to implement whatever they resolved to confront the insecurity in the North Central.
“A security summit that will address these security challenges in the North Central. Not national, north-central security summit that will bring together some retired generals that we have in the region, especially Niger state. We have a lot of retired generals. Retired Police commissioners, Police AIGs. They will come together and they will work hard to make sure they proffer a solution on how best the government should implement whatever will be the outcome of the summit”.
