The Acting Vice Chancellor of the Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), Prof. Simon Terver Ubwa, on Wednesday said that his administration has resolved longstanding staff promotion delays and restored key amenities on campus as part of efforts to stabilise the institution since June 2025.
Ubwa disclosed that when he assumed office, at least 146 senior lecturers had been left waiting for promotion since 2021, a situation he warned could have sparked a major crisis.
“Within this period, we ensured the promotions were addressed to restore confidence and avoid unrest,” he said.
He further explained that his team prioritised water supply for both students and staff by repairing vandalised pipes, fixing library meters, and restoring power to pumping facilities.
He added that nine generators were repaired, the faulty JEDC substation was revived, and the university clinic previously relying on phone lights was provided with stable power.
On students’ welfare, Ubwa revealed that 10,000 candidates were admitted this year out of 26,000 applicants, assuring that the process was free of racketeering.
He also announced a Memorandum of Understanding with developers and TETFUND to provide over 1,000 hostel spaces by next year.
The Acting VC confirmed that agreements had been reached with staff unions on wage awards and promotions through a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the state government, though some outstanding issues were still under negotiation.
Prof. Ubwa, who has risen through the ranks under four Vice Chancellors, said his focus remained getting things done right, stressing that students’ and staff welfare would continue to top his priorities.
