The Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday held a public hearing on a Bill to establish the Benue Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
Deputy Speaker, Chief Mrs. Lami Danladi Ogenyi, who declared the session open on behalf of Speaker Alfred Emberga, said the Assembly remained committed to fighting corruption and strengthening governance.
She described the Bill, presented earlier by Governor Hyacinth Alia, as a demonstration of positive collaboration between the executive and legislature, noting that such synergy was vital for passing landmark laws.
Ogenyi stressed that corruption weakens governance and denies citizens development benefits, urging stakeholders to contribute ideas for effective legislation.
She added that the proposed Commission would provide an independent platform for reporting injustice and ensure prosecution of offenders, thereby fostering accountability and public trust.
Participants at the session included community leaders, civil society representatives, youth groups, and members of the public who submitted memoranda and shared perspectives on the Bill.
