Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued a kidnap victim and recovered arms and ammunition after a gun battle with armed bandits in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

The troops, working with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, stormed Agera Nagu in Mbagina, Michihe Council Ward, following credible intelligence on kidnapping activities in the area.

During the operation, the soldiers engaged the criminals in a fierce firefight, forcing them to flee and abandon their victim, 43-year-old Mr. Teryima Torbee, who was rescued unhurt.

A cache of weapons was also recovered, including one FN rifle, five magazines, and 83 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.

The operation restored calm in the community, with troops maintaining aggressive patrols to prevent further attacks.

Force Commander of OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and swift response, noting that the success was achieved through synergy with the Civil Protection Guard.

He urged residents to sustain cooperation with security agencies by providing timely information to help dismantle criminal gangs.
