The Benue State Police Command has foiled a robbery operation by suspected bandits along the Kendev–Zaki Biam road in Sankera, killing one and recovering an AK-47 rifle with live ammunition.

A press statement released by Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, indicated that security operatives responded swiftly to intelligence about a gang terrorising villagers in the area.

She stated that the police deployed tactical and patrol teams who engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle.

“One of the bandits, identified as Awase Ankyunyo, also known as Abi Doka, was fatally wounded during the exchange and confirmed dead at the hospital. Others fled with gunshot injuries toward the Chito axis,” the statement read.

Edet further stated that the Commissioner of Police praised the operatives for their bravery and reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to protect lives and property across the state.

She added that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
