Lawyers Alert Nigeria has appointed Ms. Jerome Uneje Mary as its new Deputy President, positioning her as second-in-command to the organisation’s President, Barr. Rommy Mom.

The announcement was made via a statement published on the organisation’s official website, indicating Uneje’s extensive experience and contributions to the development sector, particularly in the promotion of human rights and gender equity.

Uneje before her elevation, served as the Director of Programs at Lawyers Alert’s Field Office in Abuja, where she led strategic program design and execution, community mobilization, and robust monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure impactful outcomes.

“Her leadership has been instrumental in aligning programmatic interventions with the organisation’s mission and values,” the statement noted.

It added that with more than 12 years of experience, Uneje has built a strong track record in advancing the rights of women and marginalised populations across thematic areas such as Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Gender-Based Violence (GBV), inclusive development, and movement building.

The statement also described her as a staunch advocate for gender justice, having spearheaded several GBV-focused interventions and facilitated cross-sectoral partnerships and community-led engagement for lasting change.

Ms. Uneje holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in French and has undergone extensive training in program management, women’s rights advocacy, and social movement building.

Lawyers Alert, a legal and human rights-based non-profit based in Makurdi, Benue State, with a field office in Abuja, expressed confidence in her ability to strengthen the organisation’s mission to promote social justice, equality, and the rule of law through legal empowerment and rights-based approaches.
