The Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Wednesday night dissolved the State Executive Council, ending the tenure of all serving Commissioners in his administration.

However, the governor announced the immediate appointment of Barr. Moses Atagher, a former two-term Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, as the new Chief of Staff.

A statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, said the dissolution was announced at the end of the 12th meeting of the Benue State Executive Council held in 2025.

Barr. Atagher, who also served as the Acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, is expected to assume office immediately.

Governor Alia expressed appreciation to the outgoing Commissioners for their service over the past two years and urged those who may not be reappointed to remain committed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and continue to work with the administration in other capacities.

He clarified that the dissolution affected only the Commissioners, not other appointees.

Speaking on behalf of the outgoing Council members, former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim, thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve.

“At every stage in life, everywhere you are called to serve is a school. We have learnt a lot while working with you,” Mnyim said.

The affected Commissioners have been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries in their respective Ministries without delay.
