In a renewed drive to strengthen the state’s health system and ensure quality service delivery at the grassroots, the Benue State Ministry of Health and Human Services on Monday carried out a Joint Supportive Supervisory Visit to the Comprehensive Health Centre (CHC), Otukpo.
The exercise, led by the State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Paul Ogwuche, brought together key stakeholders including the Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mathew Onoja; Acting Executive Secretary of the State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA), Dr. Terna; and APIN Public Health Initiatives Benue State Coordinator, Dr. Enebi Achimugu.
Dr. Ogwuche explained that the visit aimed to evaluate the quality of healthcare services, verify data accuracy, and provide hands-on mentorship to health workers to improve efficiency and accountability.
He said the supervisory mission also focused on assessing facility readiness for service integration and sustainability.
According to him, “The essence of this joint supervision is to ensure coordination among implementing partners, strengthen data quality, and guarantee that facilities are well-positioned to deliver integrated, people-centered healthcare across Benue State.”
Welcoming the delegation, the Director of Primary Health Care Authority, Otukpo Local Government, Mrs. Agnes Okoko, and the Head of the facility, Mrs. Maryam Malikanchi, highlighted major operational challenges including manpower shortage and infrastructure gaps.
Responding, Dr. Ogwuche commended the resilience of health workers in the face of these challenges and reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration to revitalising primary healthcare and expanding access to quality medical services in all communities.
The joint team conducted departmental inspections, reviewed service data, and engaged staff in mentoring sessions, underscoring the government’s determination to build a robust and sustainable health system across Benue State.
