The Benue State House of Assembly on Friday suspended four members for three months over alleged conspiracy to destabilise the chamber.
Those affected are Alfred Aondoaver Emberga (Makurdi North), Shimawua Emmanuel (Vandeikya 2), Cyril Ikong (Oju 2) and Abu Umoru (Apa).
Their suspension came after Majority Leader Saater Tiseer moved a motion accusing them of mobilising colleagues to undermine the House leadership, barely three days after members passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Speaker Aondona Dajoh and Governor Hyacinth Alia.
During debate, Elias Audu (Gwer East) and Chief Whip Peter Ipusu (Katsina-Ala West) condemned the lawmakers’ actions and threw their weight behind the motion.
Ruling on the matter, Speaker Dajoh upheld the resolution, announced the suspension, dissolved all standing committees and named new appointments of Elias Audu as spokesman, Douglas Ackya as Chief Whip and Kennedy Angbo as Deputy Minority Leader.
