The Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC) has taken physical possession of two properties along George Akume Way, Makurdi, following an asset audit that traced their purchase to diverted company funds.
The recovery was carried out as part of an ongoing verification and asset-tracking exercise approved by Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, according to the Group Managing Director of BIPC, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha.
Asemakaha said investigations revealed that the properties were acquired in 2016 with funds belonging to the company but diverted through improper channels, a development uncovered during a forensic review conducted in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He stressed that the management of BIPC would no longer tolerate situations where public assets purchased with taxpayers’ money are held by private individuals or left idle due to administrative failures.
The GMD explained that the recovery process followed due legal procedures, including verification of title documents and on-site inspection, adding that the company acted strictly within its statutory mandate.
