Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a clearance operation at Tse Adudu in Benue State, as part of ongoing efforts to rid the Joint Operations Area of criminal elements and illicit weapons.

The troops during patrol conducted on Saturday acted on credible intelligence from  members of the public who reported illegal grazing activities and destruction of farmlands by suspected armed herders.

A statement signed by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, on August 2, 2025, stated that as the soldiers approached the settlement, the herders reportedly fled into nearby bushes, abandoning their cattle.

“Following a thorough search of the area, troops discovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition carefully wrapped in a blanket and hidden in a makeshift hut,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Force Commander of OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism in protecting rural communities. He also praised residents for their patriotic support and timely intelligence, which led to the successful recovery.

He reaffirmed OPWS’s commitment to restoring peace, enhancing food security, and reviving socio-economic activities in the region, General Gara urged the public to continue supporting security operations with actionable tips.
