The Commissioner of Police in Benue State, Emenari Ifeanyi, has warned those carrying out jungle justice to desist henceforth as the Command remains commited to restoring peace and order across the state, particularly in troubled areas.
Ifeanyi frowned against mob actions and jungle justice as he stressed that such acts are unlawful and counterproductive to the rule of law.
“Mob justice is a cruel and uncivilised response to crime. It not only obstructs our investigations but also undermines the justice system. Anyone caught engaging in such acts will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
The commissioner who during a tactical briefing with field commanders at Yogbo in Guma Local Government Area, emphasised that following a reported case of cattle rustling on June 2, 2025, the importance of coordinated security efforts cannot be overstated.
He said the rustling incident occurred around 3pm and prompted immediate action from the Police.
Ifeanyi therefore in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, has directed the Area Commander in Makurdi and the Divisional Police Officer in Daudu to work closely with tactical units to ensure the safety of lives and property in the area, while investigations continue.
He urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while continuing to support the police with credible information that can aid in identifying and apprehending criminal elements.
“We call on the good people of Benue State to cooperate with security agencies and allow the law to take its course. Together, we can build a safer and more peaceful state,” the police commissioner added.
