Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for an immediate end to the ongoing violence in Benue State.
The president’s wife urged peace, dialogue, and unity among residents to end years of bloodshed.
Speaking during her visit to Makurdi, the state capital, Senator Tinubu stressed the need for collective efforts to curb the killings that have persisted despite several interventions.
She made a donation of N1 billion to support victims of the recent attacks in Yelwata community of Guma Local Government Area and provided relief materials to assist displaced persons.
The First Lady also pledged continued support for vulnerable groups, including children, girls, and persons with disabilities.
Earlier, the paramount traditional ruler of Tiv people worldwide, Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse, appealed to the Federal Government to dismantle terror networks operating in Benue and Nasarawa states.
He also called for the reconstruction of affected communities and compensation for victims.
Governor Hyacinth Alia on his part, renewed his call for the creation of a state police system and the adoption of a national ranching policy, as lasting solutions to insecurity driven by armed herders.
He commended Senator Tinubu for her show of solidarity, noting that over 1.5 million people remain displaced across Benue State due to recurring attacks.
