The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, has commenced a large-scale distribution of Christmas palliatives to constituents across the nine local government areas of the district.
The distribution, which began on Thursday, includes thousands of bags of rice, goats, chickens and other relief items valued at hundreds of millions of naira, and is targeted at families across party, religious and social lines.
According to a statement by his Media Adviser, Mr Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, the exercise has been structured in batches to ensure orderly and effective distribution due to the large volume of items involved.
The palliatives are being conveyed to the various local government areas for onward distribution to council wards and villages to reach grassroots beneficiaries.
Senator Moro said the initiative was driven by his desire to ensure that every household in Benue South benefits from the Christmas gesture, particularly the aged and other vulnerable members of the communities.
He appealed to those handling the distribution at different levels to ensure transparency and fairness so that the items reach the intended beneficiaries.
The distribution schedule covers Ado, Oju and Obi Local Government Areas on December 18; Ohimini, Ogbadibo and Okpokwu on December 19; Apa, Agatu and Otukpo on December 20; political parties including APC, ADC and LP, as well as various groups, on December 21; while December 22 has been reserved for mopping up.
The palliative distribution forms part of Senator Moro’s annual Christmas outreach aimed at easing the economic burden on constituents during the festive season.
