Senate Minority Leader and representative of Benue South Senatorial District, Senator Abba Moro, has denied reports linking him to verbal attacks against his predecessor, former Senate President David Mark.

The senator, in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, described the allegations as “laughable, unfortunate, and uncharitable.”

Recent online publications had claimed that Senator Moro sponsored a group of youths who verbally attacked Senator Mark following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The reports also alleged that Moro blamed Mark for frustrating political expectations, which purportedly led to the defection.

Reacting, Moro said he had never spoken ill of Senator Mark, either publicly or privately, before or after his defection.

He described Mark as a respected elder statesman, under whose leadership he served as Director-General of his campaign organisation.

“For the records, Senator Moro has always defended Senator Mark’s records in office and has never made any disparaging comment about him,” the statement read.

He further noted that he has consistently advised his supporters to avoid making negative comments against any political figure, stressing that every individual has the right to freely associate with any political party.

“Senator Moro is a principled public servant and will not speak from both sides of the mouth. He has nothing to gain from attacking an elder he reveres and still regards as the ‘Boss of all Bosses,’” the statement added.

The senator also appealed to political stakeholders and media commentators to refrain from stoking division among leaders in the zone and instead use their platforms to promote peace and unity.

He emphasised that he does not engage media aides or “social media urchins” to sustain his political relevance.

“Benue South is better off as a united people. Political differences should not become an excuse to demonise anyone,” he said, urging the public to verify online claims before drawing conclusions.
