The Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC) has donated 500 loaves of bread and 1,000 bags of sachet water to victims displaced by the recent deadly attack on Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The relief items were delivered to internally displaced persons (IDPs) currently sheltering at the camp located at the International Market along George Akume Way in Makurdi following the tragic attack in which scores were reportedly killed, leaving many families homeless and traumatised.
Leading the donation team, BIPC Group Managing Director, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, assured the victims that the support would not be a one-time gesture.
“We’re here to stand in solidarity with you and share in your pain. We will continue to bring bread and water every three days for as long as you remain here. You’re not alone,” Dr. Asemakaha said.
He also conveyed the commitment of the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, to restore peace and security to Yelewata and other conflict-affected areas.
Dr. Asemakaha reassured the displaced families that the state government would not abandon them.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the camp, the Permanent Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Sir James Iorpuu, represented by Dr. Donald Komgbenda, expressed gratitude to BIPC for the timely intervention.
He disclosed that the camp is currently hosting 3,078 displaced persons from 1,277 households, including 1,057 men and 2,027 women and children.
