AMAC Vice Chair: Why Hon. Ahmed Abubakar Medugu, Deserves The Slot

Those who are loyal to the party and bonafide members, should be well compensated at the appropriate time. Hon. Ahmed Abubakar Medugu, belongs to this category of people. While many of his peers have abandoned the party (APC) during its trying times in FCT; honourable Medugu has remained in the party.

Hon. Medugu, has paid his dues as far as party politics is concerned. His Abuja politics started as far back as 1994 under the then defunct platform of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), where he won an election and became Councillor for Nyanya Ward in 2007.

From ANPP, he moved to Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). The party, which was part of the merger that gave birth to All Progressives Congress (APC). Since the formation of APC, honourable Medugu, has fully remained in the party, and has been fully in support of the party in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

The position of the vice chairman, without much ado, ought to naturally go to honorable Medugu, because most of those guys vying for the position of the vice chairman are either those PDP that just decamped to APC or others who not long ago, joined the party (APC).

If the party on its wisdom decided to give the ticket to the current Chairman of AMAC, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, who recently decamped to APC, the right thing for the party – for fairness and justice, is to pick the running mate to him from the core member of the party, like Hon. Ahmed Abubakar Medugu, who has remained in the APC since its formation.  That will boast the morale of those who have been on ground in the party (APC) for long, and shows that there is usually reward for dedication and party loyalty. This, of course, will bring more peace and stability to the party.

When you look at where he is coming from – the North East, the mantle ought to fall on him, because it will bring good balance and equity. He is from Zone ‘A’ of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), which comprises Nyanya, Karu, Oronzo and Karshi. This is because most of those guys vying for the position of vice chairman come from the same ward of the chairman, and from the North West where the outgoing AMAC vice chairman comes from.

It will be more matured if the current APC AMAC chairman, Alhaji Mukhtar Abubakar, should continue with the fatherly role he has started by ensuring that the party remains strong and one united family, instead of leaving the office for the vice chairmanship candidate.

This becomes necessary and imperative considering the recent crisis that the party went through. He should build on the peace that is gradually returning to the party, especially since the emergency of the AMAC chairman as the candidate for the party in the 2026 FCT polls.

I, therefore, humbly appeal to APC, AMAC leaders and stakeholders to give the vice chairmanship slot to honorable Ahmed Abubakar Medugu – a faithful and loyal party member; he deserves to be rewarded.

Hon. Medugu, has paid his dues in AMAC APC. In view of that, wisdom demands that he should be given the vice chairmanship slot without much ado.

Hon. Ahmed Abubakar Medugu is a grassroots politician, and has large followership in AMAC. His combination with the current AMAC chairman will give APC a smooth ride in the 2026 FCT Council polls.
