Amidst speculations making rounds that AMAC chairman, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, who is the candidate of APC for AMAC in the 2026 FCT Council polls, has picked his running mate; the leading contender for the vice chairmanship position, Hon. Ahmed Abubakar Medugu, has said he is still much in the race.
Speaking to party supporters who paid him a courtesy visit, Hon. Ahmed Abubakar Medugu, debunked the rumours making round that the position of the vice chairman has been filled.
Hon. Medugu said, as far as he is concerned, the position is still open, which according to him, believes the party leaders will do the needful for fairness and justice; while maintaining that he will remain in the race until the party officially announce that the position is already filled. He added that a good sport man/woman has to continue working until the final whistle is blown.
According to him, he is not desperate but the issue on ground is fairness and justice. The former Nyanya councillor said ordinarily, it ought to be the turn of Zone ‘A’ where is coming from which comprises Nyanya, Karu, Oronzo and Karshi.
And considering the fact that other zones have taken their shots including the outgoing vice chairman, who comes from North-West; it’s supposed to be the turn of North-East, which he represents.
He said, “Other zones have taken their shots, Zone ‘A’ and North-East have not taken theirs. This time around, it’s supposed to be the turn of Zone ‘A’ and North-East. So, the race is still open and I strongly believe that the party leaders will do the needful. As a sport man/woman, you don’t need to give up, you need to continue to work even harder until final whistle is blown.
When asked what will be his reaction if he didn’t get the position, the grassroots politician said, though he believes the APC will do justice, but if peradventure they thought otherwise, and didn’t get the position, he will remain loyal to the candidate and his party (APC); saying that he has remained in the party from the time of its formation, and will continue to support the party irrespective of what happens.
“I believe that my party leaders will do justice to that, but if peradventure in their wisdom, they pick someone else, I will continue to work for the success of my candidate, Hon. Christopher Zakka Makalangu to win the election, especially in my ward (Nyanya), and other areas of FCT where I have large number of supporters.
“While I will continue to give undivided loyalty to my party in the FCT. I was a founding member of APC and have remained in the party even during our trying moments in FCT. So, no matter what happens, I’ll continue to be a good party man,” he said.
