The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Nigeria on Tuesday disclosed that over 2,500 clients have accessed free healthcare services at its newly established Wellness Center in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, within seven months of operation.
Regional Medical Manager of AHF Nigeria, Abuja, John Ugboji, disclosed this during the official launch of the center.
He said that the facility began operations in December 2024, offering free testing, treatment, and follow-up care for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
“This Wellness Center is designed for the testing, treatment, and follow-up of HIV and STDs — all services are completely free,” Ugboji said.
He added that “Since opening in December, we have attended to over 2,500 clients.”
He noted that the center was established not only to provide care but also to raise awareness about sexual and reproductive health services among residents.
Ugboji further highlighted a significant drop in HIV prevalence in Benue State, from 15.7 percent to 3.4 percent, attributing the improvement to consistent support from stakeholders and development partners.
Also speaking, AHF Nigeria’s Medical Director, Dr. Emmanuel Nwabueze, encouraged residents, especially young people, to take advantage of the free services offered by the center.
The centre according to him provides HIV and STD services, as well as cervical cancer screening, family planning, and menstrual hygiene education.
Acting Executive Secretary of the Benue State Action Committee on AIDS (BENSACA), Wonngo Titus, expressed appreciation to AHF Nigeria for its support and pledged continued collaboration to enhance public awareness and access to the center’s services.
